Problem

Getting from the airport entrance to the luggage dispatch can be a lot of trouble for people with disabilities carrying luggage, especially when traveling alone and sometimes having to rely on airport staff.

Individuals with disabilities often struggle to carry luggage, especially if they use a wheelchair, crutches, or a walker. As a result, people with disabilities may need to ask for assistance or attach their luggage to their mobility aid. This can be particularly challenging in airports, where long distances are common.

• Reduce the need for assistance and increase independence for people with disabilities when traveling
• Improve the overall travel experience for people with disabilities by reducing the stress and hassle of carrying luggage while using mobility aids
• Create a new product that can be rented to people with disabilities and improve their quality of life

Diagrams

The solutions consists of a carrier that carries the user Luggage, which communicates with the app and the central. The central is responsible for storing user and carrier data, and also do some processing required by the carrier. The app is where the user interacts with the system, rent a carrier, check status, register themselves, among other functions.

State machine:

After renting the carrier, the user needs an AR Marker affixed to the back of his/hers wheelchair, which the carrier uses as reference to follow the user. In case the user is lost, the system will stop and notify the user via a sound alert.
